As we kick off VBS week with a return to the night of Jesus’ birth, we go backstage to meet the unnamed innkeeper in Bethlehem. Is this person really infamous? Many of us, even unintentionally, see the innkeeper in a negative light. After all, no one with a caring heart would relegate the young Mary to give birth among the animals. Or, is the innkeeper really just misunderstood? We rummage through the knowns and unknowns to ultimately uncover God’s love in utter humility.
