Kindergarten at Trinity

A caring environment for a truly formative year.

The Kindergarten program at Trinity focuses on helping children grow in their faith and develop a Christ-like attitude toward learning and others. The Kindergarten curriculum offers opportunities for exploration of ideas and is designed to build an academic foundation for future learning success.

Trinity recognizes that not all children are ready for a full day kindergarten experience and that some parents prefer a half day program. For this reason, Trinity offers both full day and half day kindergarten that provides age appropriate academic standards and essential building blocks for a smooth transition into first grade.

Curriculum

Kindergarteners learn about God’s grace and love through reading the Bible, singing songs, and participating in various activities, including weekly all-school chapel. Children repeatedly hear and learn that God loves them and all people. Also, that God sent Jesus to take away their sins, as well as the sins of others. Children are encouraged to share the news of his love!
Children are given many opportunities to attach meaning to the letters and words around them. They learn the names of all the uppercase and lowercase letters and their sounds. By using correct handwriting strokes, children learn to form each letter. Children learn to recognize sight words and sound out words by reading simple stories and discussing letters and words during the Morning Meeting. Through journal writing, children sound out and spell words. Stories, with corresponding activities, are also read to the children.
Kindergarten students practice and learn a variety of math concepts. These concepts include numeral identification, time, estimating, counting, patterning, sorting, measuring, spatial concepts, and the identification and counting of coins. These concepts are taught and reinforced through hands-on and workbook activities along with daily calendar (conversations).
Science is regularly interwoven into daily activities as they discuss and learn about the weather, seasons, and the world around them. Units about the human body, things that are living/non-living, and plant life are also explored. Throughout the year, kindergarteners are involved in processes that promote scientific understanding such as observing, comparing, predicting, classifying, measuring, and graphing.
Kindergarteners learn about themselves, their families, and the world around them. The history of the United States is taught through units relating to Thanksgiving, U.S. presidents, patriotic symbols, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Various occupations are discussed, as well as current event topics found in “Time for Kids” magazine.
In addition to these core subjects, throughout the week Kindergarten students receive instruction in Music, Art, Technology, and Physical Education
